Nkasi, Rukwa – Azam TV recently aired a report on the improvement of the Kantawa Water Source in Kipande Ward, Nkasi District, Rukwa Region.
The project was funded by the Tanzania Development Trust (TDT) and implemented by Malaika Social Organization (MASO) in collaboration with the Kantawa Village Government and the local community.
Before the intervention, community members collected water directly from the natural source, which exposed it to contamination. To address this challenge, the water source has now been upgraded with a protected collection point, while the entire source has been covered to prevent dirt, animals, and other pollutants from entering.
These improvements have helped protect the quality of the water and strengthen the long-term safety of the source. They are also expected to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and improve access to safer water for the community.
Residents of Kantawa have welcomed the changes and expressed their commitment to protecting and maintaining the source for the benefit of current and future generations.
