# Kantawa Water Source Protection Project Successfully Completed
Malaika Social Organization (MASO) with financial support from Tanzania Development Trust, has successfully completed the Kantawa Water Source Protection and Improvement Project in Kantawa Village, Kipande Ward, Nkasi District, Rukwa Region. The project aimed to improve access to clean and safe water for the community by protecting the water source from contamination caused by human and livestock activities. The project was implemented in close collaboration with the Kantawa Village Government, local community members, and RUWASA, which provided technical guidance during implementation. ## Key Activities Implemented * Construction of a protected spring box using concrete and stones * Protection and covering of the water source to prevent contamination * Improvement of the water collection system * Restoration of natural vegetation around the water source to strengthen environmental conservation and source recovery * Improvement of drainage systems around the water source * Community participation in cleaning and protecting the water source area * Community education on safe water use and water source protection ## Project Achievements The project has significantly improved access to clean and safe water for the people of Kantawa Village. Protection of the water source has reduced the risk of contamination and strengthened environmental conservation around the area. The project also increased community awareness and participation in protecting water resources for future generations. ## Community Participation and Technical Support Community members actively participated in the implementation process by contributing labor and locally available materials such as stones, sand, and gravel. The Kantawa Village Government provided leadership and mobilized residents throughout the implementation period, while RUWASA offered technical support and guidance to ensure quality implementation of the project infrastructure. ## Sustainability Measures To ensure sustainability of the project, the community continues to conduct regular cleaning of the water source area and enforce local environmental protection measures aimed at preventing destructive human activities near the source. ## Appreciation MASO sincerely appreciates Tanzania Development Trust for financial support that made the successful implementation of this project possible.
