PROJECT TITLE : To reduce the effects of cli+mate chang through th implementation of renewable energy project.
Project description:
MASO conducted a baseline survey in Rukwa region especially in Sumbawanga District while planning for this project. The Survey shows that, Out of 813 households surveyed 771, i.e. 95% use firewood as the main source of energy for cooking, 45 use charcoals for cooking and 16 households use both firewood and charcoal. The survey reveals that 85% of households which use traditional stoves do not pay for firewood but collect them. At least 94% interviewed people says that the supply of energy and especially cooking energy is less enough for their diary needs. It is evident that the use of firewood and open stoves put higher pressure on forest degradation and hence contributes to the effects of climate change.
Sumbawanga is among of three districts in Rukwa region suffered by the disaster caused by the hurricane especially at Pito ward in two villages Tamasenga and Malagano two years frequently, which caused by environmental destruction due to cutting of trees for charcoal and firewood.
MASO has come up with an idea or a project to empower young people between the ages of 18-35 in the villages of Tamasenga and Malagano in Pito ward to make Improved Cook stove (ICS) which use less charcoal and is affordable, and this ICS will be sold to the community at an affordable price. This intervention will reduce deforestation and enhance ecosystem restoration to the higher extent while promote youth and the communities’ economic growth.
Project Activities
Below are the project activities:-
• Train 12 young women aged 18-35 and 8 young Boys respectively on delivery of Market Intelligence (MI)

• Train 12 young women aged 18-35 and 8 young Boys respectively on local supply chain
• Provide responsive and entrepreneur led supports in promotion and marketing;
• Distribute ICS to the local market
• Monitoring and valuation;

Specific Objectives
• To contribute to reduce deforestation
• To contribute facilitate the conservation of natural resources for our future generations
• To contribute ensure the protection of biodiversity
• To contribute implement sustainable development
Project Outcome /Output:
Outputs of the project are:-
• Twenty (20) youth (being 12 female and 8 male) trained on improved cook stoves.
